Basic chemical and physical data: White powder, odorless, 2,4-D technical has phenol odor. Vapor pressure 160℃ (0.05kPa). Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, slightly soluble in oils, soluble in ethanol. Relative density (air = 1) 7.6. 2,4-D is stable, normally it forms salt or ester for usage. 2,4-D sodium salt is white solid, melting point 215 – 216℃, soluble in water. 2,4-D amine salt is soluble in water, but 2,4-D butyl ester is not soluble in water.
Usage: 2,4-D is a selective herbicide. In agriculture it is used as herbicide and also plant growth regulator.
Toxicity: The oral LD50 of 2,4-D in the rat ranges from 375 to 666 mg/kg; 370 mg/kg in the mouse; and less than 320 to 1000 mg/kg in the guinea pig. The rat and rabbit have dermal LD50 values of 1500 mg/kg and
Storage: 2,4-D shall be stored in a cool, dry and well ventilated place. It should not be stored or transported along with foods.
